Diary (November 2009)

No summary has been written for this month, yet. Probably I've forgotten to, or this is the current month so I cannot summarise what hasn't happened yet.

  • Stargate Universe.

Well, golly. [Series banner]Stargate Universe (2009, Syfy)Action and Adventure/Science-FictionThe previously unknown purpose of the "ninth chevron" is revealed, and ends up taking a team to an Ancient ship "Destiny", a ship built millions of years ago by the Ancients & used to seed distant galaxies with Stargates. This team, led by Dr. Nicholas Rush and Colonel Everet Young, are trapped on the ship, unable to change its programmed mission, and encounter new races, new technology and new enemies, as the runaway ship takes them to the far ends of the Universe.Stargate Universe pulls off a good episode and a decent cliffhanger in "Stargate Universe1x08
"Time"
Visiting a newly discovered jungle planet, the crew is amazed to recover a Kino by the gate. Downloading the Kino data, Eli discovers video of the team, which appears to have been shot during an earlier visit. The mystery of the video’s origin becomes a secondary concern as members of the team start falling ill.
Time
" today. It didn't start off well, but my predictions of what's going to happen didn't come true and we were left with a decent cliffhanger. Although I do question the fact that the worm hole was open when the flare occurred - previously it's been stated that the flare had to happen during the connection, I thought.

Alex rang me today on Skype with Claire, which was really sweet <smile>.

I've tidied up some of the boxes in my room today, too. Mostly I've got rid of junk that I'll never need - stupidly small 'MB' disc drives, stacks of documentation that I'll never need and loads of other bits and pieces. The room still looks a mess but I'm getting there.

Sunday
  • IMDB::Film.
  • Peter and the Wolf.

I've submitted another exciting patch for IMDB::Film today; a patch to add support for fetching videos related to a film. It's not all that exciting, as mostly it links to .flv files. But the flvs can easily be played with mplayer or converted with mencoder, so that's useful to me.

I've got the theme from 'Peter and the Wolf' going around my head. Those whole thing is pretty anyhow, and I've just been listening to the only copy I have of it - which seems to be a narration by Pooh!

"Water"
Severe rationing can't save the Destiny's dwindling water supply, forcing Colonel Young and Lieutenant Scott to seek out drinkable water on a deadly ice planet.
Water
" - which doesn't particularly thrill me from just the name, given that I'm sure there an episode of that name on [Series banner]Battlestar Galactica (2003, SciFi)Action and Adventure/Drama/Science-FictionIn a distant part of the universe, a civilization of humans live on planets known as the Twelve Colonies. In the past, the Colonies have been at war with a cybernetic race known as the Cylons. 40 years after the first war the Cylons launch a devastating attack on the Colonies. The only military ship that survived the attack takes up the task of leading a small fugitive fleet of survivors into space in search of a fabled refuge known as Earth.Battlestar Galactica that made me finally say 'oh screw this'. Despite being given the similarity of name... no... it was actually that dull. So much so that I'd lost sufficient faith in watching anything worthwhile that I went to sleep instead of watching FlashForward (2009, ABC)Drama/Science-FictionA mysterious event causes nearly everyone on the planet to simultaneously lose consciousness for 137 seconds, during which people see what appear to be visions of their lives approximately six months in the future - a global "flashforward". A team of Los Angeles FBI agents, led by Stanford Wedeck (Vance) and spearheaded by Mark Benford (Fiennes) and his partner Demetri Noh (Cho), begin the process of determining what happened, why, and whether it will happen again. Benford contributes a unique perspective on the investigation; in his flashforward, he saw the results of six months of investigation that he had done on the flashforward event, and he and his team use those clues to recreate the investigation.FlashForward. I find it difficult to recall now - this morning - what it was that was good about the episode. I can remember the bad... I remember more of the relationship crap, random 'sometimes people lie' yelling, vague 'we're going to save you and I'm not leaving until we do', and blah. The very mild saving grace was the alien from sand planet, but the stupidity of shooting at an entity made up at bugs completely ruled that out.

I may give it one more in order to get better, but I'm pretty sure that they've lost me.
