Diary (February 2009)

No summary has been written for this month, yet. Probably I've forgotten to, or this is the current month so I cannot summarise what hasn't happened yet.

  • Last Chance To See.

It looks like Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine are doing another [Series banner]Last Chance To See (2009, BBC Two)DocumentaryA follow-up to the 1990 Radio 4 series in which the late Douglas Adams and Mark Carwardine travelled around the world in search of endangered species. 20 years later Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine go back to see what has become of the animals in two decades, and to discover what has affected their fortunes. http://www.bbc.co.uk/lastchancetoseeLast Chance To See! Ian pointed me to Stephen Fry's pictures on 'twitter' where he's filming some stuff and I noticed who he was with - and a little research later, that's what they're doing. Yay. That should be pretty good to watch. Although, reading about it, I see that the Yangtze river dolphin is in all probability extinct now, which is very sad.

Good Girl: "I'm a ghost actually."
Bad Guy: "Really ? That's so cool... Can you like... move things and walk from room to room ?"
Good Guy: "Um, you know I think normal people can do that too"

Someone on the SlimDevices forum mentioned 'Songbird' earlier. It's ... an open source version of iTunes. For pete's sake... iTunes has a crappy interface... the only good thing about iTunes is... well, it plays music. That may be it. But there are other things that do that, and do it better. There's MP3Toys, for a start. And for an end, too... it's just really nice, unlike iTunes which... really, really isn't.

  • Tired.

I've been tired and not sleeping for quite a few weeks now. And feeling pretty crappy. I'd hoped that'd change but... nyah... Oh well. There's not a whole lot to say recently anyhow. I'm pretty fed up with most things and irritable, but I'm hoping that will improve.

On the plus side, I discovered [Series banner]Psych (2009, BBC Two)ComedyThe series revolves around five different characters from different parts of Britain: David Sowerbutts, a serial killer obsessed man-child who still lives with his mother Maureen; Mr. Jelly, an embittered one-handed children's entertainer; Oscar Lomax, a blind millionare who collects Beanies; Joy Aston, a midwife who treats a practice doll as if it is her real child; and Robert Greenspan, a telekinetic panto dwarf in love with his Snow White. All five are connected by a mysterious blackmailer who has sent them a letter each, all of which contains the same message: "I know what you did..."Psych on BBC One recently, which has been quite fun enough to cheer me up. And [Series banner]Being Erica (2009, CBC)Comedy/Drama/FantasyThirty-something Erica Strange receives the ultimate opportunity - to go back in time and relive her most defining moments. From first kisses and prom nights to job interviews, Erica now has the chance to put right her long list of regrets with the hope that it will result in the life she really wants. Being Erica; that's still quite fun too.

  • Tidying up.

After opening every computer-bits box in my room to try to find a USB hub, I remembered that it's with mum and dad. And the one that Caroline got me for Christmas is at work as an extension for the webcam. So... bother.

As a result the room was a bit of a mess, so I tidied up the boxes and took the opportunity to put away the mouse and keyboard from Virginia (the old RPC test machine), which was itself removed about 9 months ago. And then to put away the mouse and keyboard from the main RPC, as it hasn't been used in probably about 12 months, and the Viewfinder card is currently half hanging out of the back since it came out of the back plane when I disconnected the VGA cable 5 months ago.

So... it's a little tidier on the desks. But only a little.

In other news, life sucks.
