Evanescence. Linkin Park. Other musicy bits. |
Ok, I want to buy Evanescence 'Fallen' based almost solely on Going Under.
Evanescence sound something like Lacuna Coil from my brief listen to, and Going Under has that similar energy and darkness that Pain Of Salvation bring to Perfect Element.
Interestingly, Evanescence are compared in a couple of reviews/comments to Linkin Park. Listening to a few tracks, I'm not really sure that there's too much similarity - at least on this first listen. There's definately the dark quality to it from the quick listen to. I only have Hybrid Theory around to listen to here, though so I'm not sure that that's typical.
Amusingly, though, spinning through the tracks quickly I came across Crawling which grabbed me initially because of the totally different electronic introduction that I really wasn't expecting and then - most weirdly - as I jumped into the track I hear a voice that sounds so familiar. Why ? It could /so/ easily be Savage Garden. Ok, so its only a little bit of the track, but... the structure of the lyrics and the delivery is just very familiar (overlay rap isn't, though :-) )
Skipping further, 'In The End' opens with a piano and we again have this quite interesting rap/savage garden mix. Maybe my minds just stuck in this idea of SG, but however I view it, it's cool.
So, having listened to Hybrid Theory, I'm almost tempted to buy this as well. Tomorrow could become expensive.
Linkin Park has a feel of 'How You Remind Me' in places, but listening back to that makes me think it's a lighter shadow of some of the Linkin Park bits I've heard (but still there's the nagging thought in the back of my head about Savage Garden-like sound that's annoying me).
Ok, now I've heard Bring Me To Life and Everybody's Fool (Evanescence) and I'm pretty definately going to buy this album. Everybody's Fool is ok - it would fit alongside In a reverie nicely. But Bring Me To Life almost rocks as much as Going Under.
Uh... My Immortal opens with piano and female vocal... Cool :-)
I can see why the Tori Amos is mentioned in other reviews; and Sarah McLachlan as well, actually.
I've just listened to Going Under again.
So, lets see... I've not been this excited about music from one track since... Coo... it must be Archive's 'Again', and before that probably Pain Of Salvation 'Ashes' or Lacuna Coil 'To Myself I turned'.
I got into bed two and a half hours ago to try to get some sleep and just thought "I'll see whether the 5 second snippet of Evanescence I heard on the telly advert really was worth while" and now I'm all awake and wanting to buy some new music.
