Our hero.
Angela.

[Note]
Our hero lives in a box at the bottom of a Coca-Cola sign
Like some great alternate god, flashing messages all of the time
He doesn't come here to worship, no he comes here to live
And at night he crawls through the city to take whatever we don't give
He used to have a little baby, but a fragile thing can soon be gone
A little cold never hurt you and me, but her she didn't last long
And our hero stares at the stars, watches them turn red and white
He says "These are men who have made this, and this is not gods light"
And he says "Hear me, Hear me, I'm at the bottom of the red and the white sign."

...

Our hero lays in the grass, dreaming of his little sweet child
He remember holding her hand, and touching her little sweet smile
If a man can create this neon tower in to the sky,
Where the hell was the god of the Coca-Cola sign, the night she died
And he says "Hear me, Hear me, I'm at the bottom of the red and the white sign.
Hear me, Hear me, I'm at the bottom and I'm coming for you."

[Note]

Spent quite a bit tonight talking to Angela (Rayner) on matters of theology and... well, stuff. I'm glad I didn't take such a course, as I would have been /really/ bad at it, but it was interesting to hear someone who knows a lot more about the subject talk about it.

She also mentioned that the diary hadn't been updated for a while. So, this update is for her.

Interesting ways of making people ignore your email :

  • Write the word 'Important' in the subject.
  • Write the phrase 'Please Read' in the subject.

Ok, so maybe most people read them. I don't. If you send me something with those in the title they'll be ignored. Automatic spam trap ? No; just an inherent belief that if you feel that strongly about something as to demand my attention, you're probably just some zealot and aren't worthy of that attention. It's my decision as to whether it's important. If you think you're going to get my attention over that of anything else with either of those phrases, you're sadly mistaken.

What's a button hole without a button ? It's just a hole, isn't it ?

Ashes

[Note]
You claim I don't know you, but I know you well
I read in those ash eyes we've been through hell
I've walked with the weakest just to feel strong
You've given your body just to belong

Let's burn together
Let's burn together

This pain will never end
These scars will never mend

...

As we walk through the ashes
I whisper your name
A taste of pain to cling to
As we walk through the ashes
You whisper my name
Who's the one with the sickest mind...
now?

Anne (Buffy)

[Quote]
Buffy: Hey, Ken, wanna see my impression of Gandhi?

She wields back the club and brings it down hard onto his head, crushing his skull. Lily comes up behind her and looks at him squeamishly.

Lily: Gandhi?

Buffy: Well, you know, if he was really pissed off.

ioctl madness.
Buffy 3!

Well, I've had a rather mad day fooling around with ioctl calls. Get them right and you're doing well. Get them wrong and you've suddenly configured the system to try to send messages to mars using some unheard of protocol. Ok, maybe not quite like that, but implementing specifications in terms of standard socket calls when you've got evil state diagrams to get into your head is... tricky.

The year is specified with the century, so it should generally be four digits except for really long leases.

Buffy season 3 arrived today, too. So I may get a chance to watch some of those as well. Great, huh ?

It being now 8am, I think I probably ought to think about some sleep.

Tired today.
Food.

Seem very tired today. Probably lack of sleep. That'd do it.

We had Chinese tonight; that was very nice. And we had pancakes at lunch time.

Oh, and my 10/100 switch arrived today. Massive overkill for my network, but still it might be useful sometime in the near future.

I think the memory in the PC is playing silly buggers. I must take out the 64 and see if that is indeed the problem.

Updates for the diary and site.

I've updated the site to have entries for November, December, January and February now. And a 2002 page. Wow. Astounding huh ?

Also, I've updated a few applications on the site. Nothing special.

John Kortink pisses me off.

Never tell me I'm not capable of doing things in RISC OS.
